Winter isn’t just about bundling up for ourselves. Our pets feel the effects of the cold too! From frostbite to dry skin, the harsh elements can take a toll on their well-being. Plus, decreased daylight and outdoor activity can lead to boredom and restlessness for pets. By focusing on their physical and mental health, you can ensure they enjoy the winter season as much as you do (if not more!).


Preventing Frostbite and Hypothermia

Just like us, pets are at risk of frostbite and hypothermia in frigid conditions. While their fur provides some protection, it’s not always enough. Here’s how to keep them safe:

  • Limit Outdoor Time: Keep walks short when temperatures plummet, especially for pets with short fur or those more sensitive to the cold, like seniors and smaller breeds.

  • Dress for the Weather: A cozy coat or sweater can make all the difference for pets who need extra warmth. Make sure it fits properly and doesn’t restrict movement.

  • Protect Their Paws: Ice, salt, and snow can cause cracked paw pads and irritation. Use booties or apply a paw balm before heading outside, and always wipe their paws clean after walks.
